Hero and Nemesis

Heroes are defined by the challenges they face: Man, Nature, Self. Most often, SWG feels like it’s the Hero against Nature. But that is static and unchanging, requiring massive amounts of content. Each character (or account) needs a Nemesis, an NPC character that the computer can devise interactions and missions with that you can’t get with another person for balance and griefing reasons. Missions and mysteries can be generated based on various factors.

  • At character creation you nemesis is born. Should transcend faction, species, etc. Perhaps it’s an old rival, or someone you slighted without knowing.
  • Perhaps you are given a few missions and based on that a unique nemesis is created just for you.
  • This Nemesis has a diabolical plan, elements of which you keep foiling and so you become his target. Defeating your nemesis will be a trial, a growing and defining experience that you can share with others. “My nemesis escaped on Dathomir.”
  • This system also allows unique contacts specifically created to help you deal with the nemesis by providing information, support, travel means, locations, other contacts, etc. This contact can be labeled a family friend, a college, a distant relative, or whatever.
  • Some missions will have the taste of your Nemesis, others will be independent with hints leading to him.
  • Locating your Nemesis’s base of operation and shutting it down is a big mission.
  • Some missions will have you choosing whether to attack something or someone personal to the Nemesis. They may place a bounty on your head or send minions after you (such as a docking bay encounter).
  • Your nemesis will have a plan that only you can thwart. This plan will affect your chosen faction, institution, planet you live on, galactic travel, city you live in, or anything that’s personal to you but affects everyone. This connects you with the galaxy. You now have a reason to recruit or hire other players because everyone has a stake but they can’t stop the plan without you.
  • Some Nemesis plans will be on a timer, such as in a month’s time. Others are dependant upon triggers from other missions.
  • Nemesis examples: Vader and Luke, C’boath and Luke, Kaarde and Thrawn, Han Jabba, Han and Zinj, Darth Maul and Qui-gon, Dooku and Anakin, Viceroy and Amidala,
  • There could also possibly be a Guild Nemesis
